Overview
"Mark as unchanged" is useful if you already have the same files in both local and remote folders. It will prevent re-syncing these unchanged files, saving you a lot of time and bandwidth.
How to Mark Files as Unchanged
- Preview the profile
- Select the same files in the preview result. If it's difficult to pick up same files manually, you can simply select all items. FTP Synchronizer will help you choose same files.
- Click Edit → Mark as unchanged. If all files you selected have the same file size, they will be marked as unchanged and you can go to step #4. Otherwise, a window will open to ask for more information. There are three options:
File Size Difference Options
- "They are same" - These files are the same and will NOT be synchronized. Please double check before selecting this option, because in most cases, the same files should have the same size too.
- "They are different" - These files are different and will be synchronized.
- "Only files with specified extensions are same" - This may happen if you uploaded files in ASCII mode to a Unix FTP server. Unix systems have different end-of-line markers than Windows, so although file content is the same, the size is different.
Complete the Process
- Run the profile
Important Notes
You only need to do this once unless you upload files with other FTP clients again. In this case, you may need to mark these files as unchanged again if you don't want to re-synchronize them.
Tip: Always verify the content before marking files as "same" when file sizes differ.
When to Use This Feature
- After manually uploading files with another FTP client
- When setting up FTP Synchronizer for the first time with existing files
- After switching from different synchronization software
- When files have identical content but different timestamps
